 Nice basket - but non standard size for sheetsFeb 05, 2011

Received the moses basket today. Nice light colored basket work, with soft lining - which has light green and brown polka dots and a green removeable foam mattress. The accompanying blanket is polyester, so I doubt I will be using it, as I'm trying to stick to cotton.
The basket is quite long and narrow and I think it will be a safe place for my baby to spend her first few weeks - she's not arrived yet, but I ordered this in advance to be prepared for her arrival, as I do not have a crib yet.
The mattress is quite thin foam and I've just found out it does not fit a lot of the standard fitted sheets or waterproof protective covers.
The mattress measures 10" x 28" and most standard sheets and covers are 15" x 33", so are too large.
I am going to order a pack of waterproof pads, which are 18" x 27" and can be cut to size and have found some cotton fitted sheets that are about the same size.
There are no instructions with the basket, so investigate maximum weight requirements for other baskets and do not carry the baby in the basket by the handles.
I ordered a foldable moses basket stand, which are quite hard to find, so am yet to discover if this will fit the basket (another reason why I am ordering things like this in advance of baby's arrival, as so many things from online shopping need returned).

Ok, first of all we didn't pay as much as Amazon currently has it for. It was a bit steep in my book given that I viewed it as a basket, but I needed somewhere to put our baby in the meantime. When it arrived, it looked gorgeous. It came with a matching blanket. The material around the edges and blanket were super soft. The bottom of the lining was cheap material, that's why the probably don't show it in the pics. The padding was quite thin, but the bedsheet was also soft. So I couldn't complain as I rather soft over firm. But reality kicks in once you actually have the baby. It doesn't take long to dent the foam, eww gross, when there is any mess that must be cleaned up or just regular washing. Watch out for screwed up foam after cleaning it. It tends to have minimal shrinking. All in all, I would not recommend. Nice to look at, but that's where it stays.
