Description:

If your toddler can walk, your toddler can ride a STRIDER™ Balance Bike. STRIDER teaches your child balance and coordination, developing glittering confidence. Trikes and bikes with training wheels simply can’t do this. Traditional bicycles place too much focus on learning to pedal - skimping on developing your child’s motor skills. And these bikes are heavy, clunky and difficult for toddlers to control. The STRIDER Balance Bikeis the natural progression from a ride-on or push toy. Yes, bike riding becomes a easy and fun when you teach your child balance and coordination before pedaling. With NO pedals and NO training wheels, your toddler powers the STRIDER Balance Bikeusing their feet safely on the ground; allowing them to learn to balance a bike at their own pace. So ditch the tricycle and training wheels, and teach your child to ride a bike sooner and safer with a Strider Balance Bike.

3Good for the littlest budding riders, if you can get past the mediocre qualityAug 01, 2011
By Nathaniel Allen
I found a better bike! (UPDATE 8/8/11): I've looked over my review, and I'll let it stand as I originally posted, but I found a Giant "Pre Push" in my local shop of similar size to the Strider, and of the level of quality I expect for the price. It was only ten smackers more. So yeah, a bit of buyer's remorse with the Strider.Being a Giant (bicycle brand), it doesn't appear to be sold online, so you'd have to locate a local Giant bicycle dealer to inquire.

I'm a die-hard bike guy, so I have my own "quality" preconceptions to get over, but at face value our Strider PreBike is overpriced for the level of quality it offers. The crunchy headset is embarrassing compared even to cheap bikes found at big box stores, and the one-piece wheel-tires are lightweight molded plastic. I realize that this bike isn't for "real riding" i.e. taking it out on the trail, yet for the money paid I expected just a bit more quality. By comparison, we also own a Kettler Sprint Balance Bike that features higher quality wheels, headset and hand grips, rubber tires, and nicer paint, for about the same price -- too bad it's too big for little guys.

But with that dissatisfaction out on the table, let's get at the nitty-gritty: the Strider is the smallest balance bike I've found, and fits my 2-year old perfectly (and would have fit him easily at 18 months). It only needs to last long enough to teach a small child balance and turning skills, soon after which a "real" bike can take over.

He naturally wanted to pick this lightweight bike up and straddle it, and I can tell you with an absolutely straight face that the "junky" wheels/tires and lightweight steel frame are good, because they make this bike half the weight of the Kettler. Not so important when the bike is scooting along, but really important when I want an itty bitty kid to "handle" this thing -- pick it up, walk with it, lean it over to mount it, pivot it around to change to a new direction.

I also found it curious that there were no hints/tips/pointers to facilitate the learning process, given the nature of this bike. Even browsing Strider's website, I came up with nothing.

5Great Birthday giftDec 11, 2010

I got this bike for my son for his 2nd birthday. He absolutely loves his bike and looks forward to riding it any chance that he gets. It was easy to assemble and is a great quality product. I recommend this to any parent of an active two year old and above.

5Strider No-Pedal Balance BikeApr 24, 2012

Best investment I did for the kids to learn how to ride a bike without the support wheels. Both of my boys learned it intuitively and moved to the no wheels bike right after. They loved it.

5You Need a Balance BikeApr 01, 2012
By H. Bartlett "Everyday Mom of One"
We started my son on his balance bike when he was in his late 2's. Watching him start out running along with his feet like the flinstones then transforming to lifting those feet up and sailing down the road was awesome.

The kids truly do learn how to balance on these bikes. What does that do?

Lets just say our son only needed training wheels for 2 days and that was because he wanted to try them, I think he could have done without them. The pedalling part is the easy part of cycling it is the balance that is hard. So having your child master the balance part and getting that confidence on the balance bike is a huge advantage.

Our son is now four and does things on the bike that freak me out, he has supreme confidence and we have had no bad crashes, I am so thankful for the strider.

5GREAT!!!!Mar 17, 2012

I bought the bike for my 2yr old son for Christmas and he has enjoyed it everyday! I didn't think he would be able to use it at first but after a few tries he was zooming around on the bike! He is 2 1/2 now is ready for a bicycle. I would totally recommend this for any child. I also would recommend getting a good helmet and protective gear. My son rides the bike so fast now he makes me nervous. Everyone who watches my child ride is always amazed at his great balance.
